A sight in the Białystok region

Narew National Park — the Waniewo to Śliwno boardwalk

Near Białystok the Narew flows in hundreds of channels, forming a maze known as the Polish Amazon. The best way to see it is the boardwalk between Waniewo and Śliwno: wooden walkways lead through the reeds, and you cross the channels on floating platforms that you pull across yourself on a rope.

Practical tips

The boardwalk is about a kilometre long; there and back with the crossings takes 1.5–2 hours. In spring and early summer it is a paradise for birdwatchers — bring binoculars and insect repellent.

Queues form at the platforms at busy times, so arrive early at weekends. There is a viewing tower above the valley at Waniewo.
