Wisła — mountains, skiing and the source of the Vistula in the Silesian Beskids.
A mountain resort in the heart of the Silesian Beskids, at the foot of Barania Góra, where the waters of the Vistula rise — a network of trails and lifts, the famous ski jump at Malinka, the Residence of the President of Poland and the shepherding traditions of the region.
What to know before you go
Wisła is one of the most popular mountain resorts in Poland — a town spread through the valleys of the Silesian Beskids, ringed by the ridges of Barania Góra, Stożek and Czantoria. In summer it draws visitors with its trails and shepherding atmosphere; in winter with a dense network of lifts and ski runs.
The region carries the name of Poland's longest river: below Barania Góra rise the Biała and Czarna Wisełka streams, which join to form the Vistula. The emblem of skiing here remains the Adam Małysz ski jump at Malinka — a place bound up with the career of Poland's most famous ski jumper.
Wisła is also history and culture: the modernist Residence of the President of Poland on Zadni Groń, the Beskid Museum with its shepherding and weaving collections, and wooden and brick Lutheran churches — Wisła is one of the main centres of Polish Lutheranism.
The town lies at the end of the railway line from Katowice through Skoczów and Ustroń (the stations Wisła Uzdrowisko and Wisła Głębce). It makes a convenient base for the whole of the Silesian Beskids — Stożek, Czantoria, the valley of the Biała Wisełka and the mountain huts round about.
