Łeba — shifting dunes and a wild Baltic.

A seaside town at the gates of Słowiński National Park — with shifting dunes unique in Europe, Lake Łebsko, a wide beach and a fishing harbour. The travelling sands can move several metres, sometimes more than ten, in a year.

About the region

What to know before you go

Łeba lies between the sea and Lake Łebsko, at the gates of Słowiński National Park — a UNESCO biosphere reserve (the MAB programme, since 1977). This is where the famous shifting dunes are: a desert landscape of travelling sands, the only one of its kind in this part of Europe.

The dunes (the highest being Łącka Góra) move with the wind, burying the forest — an extraordinary effect, and a surprising one so close to the Baltic. The approach starts at Rąbka (on foot, by electric buggy, by bicycle or by boat across the lake) and involves a walk of several kilometres.

Łeba itself is a classic resort: a wide sandy beach, a fishing and yacht harbour, a promenade and fish-fry stalls. It makes a good base for combining the beach with the wild nature of the national park and cycle trips around the lake.

Getting there: by rail seasonally and otherwise with a change (Lębork plus a bus), or by car from the Tricity in about 2–2.5 hours. In season there are traffic restrictions at the park entrance — from Rąbka you continue on foot or by low-emission transport.

Seasons

Łeba in every season

Spring

The dunes without the crowds, birds on Lake Łebsko and a cold Baltic. A very good time for the park.

Summer

The height of the season — the beach and dunes are packed and every boat and transport service to the park is running. The busiest time.

Autumn

Storms, empty beaches and the colours of the park. Atmospheric and quiet.

Winter

A raw, wild Baltic; some attractions and transport are closed. The dunes are reachable on foot — bracing and empty.
