Białystok Cathedral — the old parish church and the neo-Gothic basilica
Białystok's cathedral is a rare case of two churches joined into one. The small 17th-century parish church became too cramped, and the Tsarist authorities would not allow a new one — so in the early 20th century a huge neo-Gothic "extension" was built onto it, dwarfing the original.
See both parts: the modest baroque old church and the tall red-brick basilica. The difference in scale is best seen from Kościuszko Square, a few minutes away.
