A sight in the Białystok region

Branicki Palace in Białystok — the Versailles of Podlasie and its baroque gardens

The Branicki Palace is Białystok's most important monument: the 18th-century residence of Grand Hetman Jan Klemens Branicki, already called the Versailles of Podlasie in its day. Today it houses the Medical University, and the gardens with fountains, sculptures and pergolas are open to visitors.

What to see

A gate crowned with a griffin leads into the courtyard; behind the palace stretches a French garden with parterres, a canal, pavilions and sculptures — one of the best-preserved of its kind in Poland. Part of the palace houses a Museum of the History of Medicine and Pharmacy.

A walk in the gardens takes an hour, two with the museum. Kościuszko Square is a few minutes away.
