The market square and town hall in Sandomierz — the heart of the Gothic old town

The market square in Sandomierz is an almost square space of about 110 by 120 metres, ringed by a row of historic arcaded townhouses. In the middle stands the town hall, raised at the turn of the 15th century, which despite its Renaissance form has kept Gothic elements and its distinctive tower. The Renaissance parapet crowning it means the Sandomierz town hall is reckoned one of the finest in Poland. Today it houses part of the District Museum, and the square is the main place for meetings, events and summer café terraces. It is also the heart of the film locations known from the series about Father Mateusz.
