The conventual core of the fortress
The High Castle is the monastic heart of the Teutonic fortress — a compact quadrangle around an inner garth, ringed by cloisters. Here were the dormitories, the chapter house, the treasury and the refectory, and here the defences were strongest (the gdanisko, a fortified latrine tower, together with walls and a moat).
The church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Anne's Chapel
The High Castle holds the monumental church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with the figure of the Madonna on the outer wall reconstructed after the war, and the burial chapel of St Anne — the resting place of more than a dozen grand masters. These are among the most important interiors in the whole complex.
