A sight in the Malbork region

The chapter castle and cathedral in Kwidzyn

The Gothic castle and cathedral complex of the former Pomesanian chapter — with its distinctive gdanisko set far out on arcades, one of the most recognisable silhouettes of brick Gothic in the region.

The chapter castle and cathedral

The chapter castle in Kwidzyn was built in the 14th century as the seat of the Pomesanian chapter and is structurally joined to the neighbouring Gothic cathedral. It is a compact brick complex that embodied spiritual and administrative power in the region.

The famous gdanisko

The most distinctive element is the gdanisko — a fortified latrine tower and refuge, here set exceptionally far from the castle and carried on a long, many-arched arcaded bridge. It is one of the most spectacular solutions of its kind in all Teutonic architecture.
