A sight in the Malbork region

The Castle Museum in Malbork — amber and the collections

The castle interiors house a museum with an outstanding amber collection — from raw pieces with inclusions to intricate craftwork — together with collections of arms, sculpture and architectural detail.

The amber collection

Malbork's amber holdings are among the most valuable in the country — natural pieces with inclusions (trapped insects and plants) alongside jewellery and everyday objects from many periods. It is a natural complement to the Baltic 'amber' thread that runs through the region.

The other collections

  • Arms and armour — weapons linked with the history of the Order
  • Sculpture and architectural detail — originals and casts
  • Temporary exhibitions — a changing programme
  • Combined tickets with the castle visiting route

Practical notes

The displays occupy castle halls and form part of the visiting route — it is worth setting aside extra time for the amber collection. In season it is best to arrive early to avoid the queues.
