The Castle of the Dukes of Pomerania in Darłowo

The Castle of the Dukes of Pomerania in Darłowo is the only surviving seaside castle in Poland, begun in 1352 in the reign of Duke Bogusław V. Its most famous resident was Eric I of Pomerania, grandson of Casimir the Great and at the same time king of Denmark, Sweden and Norway, who after a turbulent life settled in Darłowo and died here. The quadrangular building with its tall tower looms over the town and the river Wieprza. Since 1930 the castle has housed a museum with rich collections of art, arms and mementoes of the history of Pomerania. It is the most important monument in the whole region.
