The foundation and its history
The Calvary was founded in 1649 by Jakub Wejher, the founder of the town of Wejherowo — as a votive offering for surviving the Smolensk war. It is among the oldest and most important pilgrimage sites in northern Poland and for centuries helped to keep Polish identity alive in Kashubian hearts.

The Calvary is open to all — the paths lead over picturesque hills. It is best known for its annual Mystery of the Passion on Good Friday, which combines a religious ceremony with a theatrical performance. Wejherowo is called "the spiritual capital of Kashubia".
