A sight in the Kaszuby region

Lake Wdzydze and the Wdzydze Landscape Park — the Kashubian Sea

Lake Wdzydze is called the "Kashubian Sea" — a cross of five linked lakes (Wdzydze, Gołuń, Radolne, Jelenie and Słupinko) covering 1,570 hectares and up to 68 m deep. Around it stretches the Wdzydze Landscape Park.

The cross of lakes

Seen from the air the lake forms a cross with arms 9 and 11 km long. The layout of five linked lakes whose main axes run crosswise gave rise to the name the Wdzydze Cross of Lakes. Its size and shape led local people to call the water the "Kashubian Sea".

What you can do

  • Swimming — beaches at Wdzydze Kiszewskie and the villages along the shore
  • Kayaks and sailing — the most popular water in southern Kashubia
  • Fishing — pike, perch, zander and bream
  • Cycle routes — the "Around the Wdzydze Lakes" route

The Wdzydze Landscape Park

The lake lies at the heart of the Wdzydze Landscape Park, created in 1983 across 17,800 hectares to protect the natural world and Kashubian culture. There are ten islands in the lake, and white-tailed eagles, herons and cranes nest along its shores.
