The Racławice Panorama — a monumental painting of a battle — Wrocław

A 19th-century painting

The Racławice Panorama was painted in 1893–1894 for the centenary of the battle of Racławice, an engagement of the Kościuszko Uprising of 1794. It is the work of a team of painters led by Jan Styka and Wojciech Kossak. After the war the canvas was brought to Wrocław and finally opened to the public in 1985, in a rotunda built for it.

In practice

Tickets can sell out well in advance — booking online is strongly advised. The Panorama is close to the old town, and the ticket often covers the nearby National Museum as well. The visit goes well with the Market Square and a walk to Ostrów Tumski.
