The Warsaw Rising
The Warsaw Rising broke out on 1 August 1944 and lasted 63 days — the Home Army's revolt against the German occupation. After its collapse the Germans went on destroying the city systematically. The museum tells that story from the point of view of the insurgents and of the civilian population.
The exhibition
The exhibition is multimedia and laid out chronologically — with original documents, recordings, films and reconstructions, including a walk through a mock-up of a sewer (the sewers served the insurgents as escape routes) and a replica of a B-24 Liberator bomber. The emotionally dense visit often takes several hours.
