The Sanctuary na Górce — Our Lady Queen of Poland in Szczyrk

The Sanctuary of Our Lady Queen of Poland „na Górce" stands at about 670 m a.s.l. above Szczyrk. The Marian devotion goes back to 1894 when, as tradition has it, apparitions took place here and Mary promised a miraculous spring to twelve-year-old Julianna Pezda. A wooden chapel came first, and the present church was built by the Salesians between 1948 and 1954. In 1994, on the centenary of the apparitions, Bishop Tadeusz Rakoczy raised it to the rank of sanctuary, and in 2008 Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz crowned the image. The miraculous spring still flows beside the grotto.
