The beach and the Friendship Promenade at Mielno — the heart of the resort

Mielno's chief attraction is its wide, pale, sandy beach and the Friendship Promenade running along the crest of the dunes — a seaside walkway linking Mielno with Unieście. This is where the life of the resort is concentrated: restaurants, fish-fry stalls, ice cream shops, souvenir stands and, in season, lifeguarded bathing areas. By the promenade stands the Walrus Monument — the emblem of Mielno as the "capital of winter swimming".

The beach

The beach at Mielno is wide, sandy and runs for kilometres — it follows the spit and continues into the beaches of Unieście, Mielenko and Sarbinowo. In summer there are lifeguarded bathing areas, beach basket and lounger hire and water attractions. Thanks to the position on the spit you can walk from the beach to the other side — to Lake Jamno — in a few minutes.

The promenade

The Friendship Promenade runs along the crest of the dunes and links Mielno with Unieście. Along it stretch restaurants, fish-fry stalls, cafés and shops — in the evening it is the main meeting place in the resort. By the promenade stands the Walrus Monument, a reminder of the famous winter swimmers' rallies.

In practice

Access to the beach is free, and at the height of the season it can be crowded — for quieter photographs it is better to come at dawn or at sunset. With children the gentle entry to the water works well; for the active, Lake Jamno and its windsurfing are within walking distance.

Spring

An empty beach, the promenade slowly waking up, and a good time for walking and cycling without the crowds.

Summer

The height of the season — crowds, lifeguarded bathing areas, full fry stalls and an evening bustle on the promenade.

Autumn

September is warm and quiet, with the water still fit for swimming; October is windy and good for stormy views.

Winter

Empty and raw, but in January or February the beach comes alive for the Winter Swimmers' Rally.
