History and construction
The lighthouse at Gąski was built in the 19th century — construction began in 1876 and it came into service in 1878. It is a tall, slender brick tower which, at about 50 m, is among the tallest on the Polish coast. The whole complex — the tower, the keepers' house and the working buildings — is a listed monument.
The climb and the view
190 winding granite steps lead to the viewing platform. From the top opens a wide view of the Baltic and the coast — in good weather you can see Sarbinowo, Chłopy, Mielno and Unieście. It is one of the most rewarding viewpoints on the middle coast.
In practice
The lighthouse is open to visitors in season (with a ticket); out of season the hours can be limited — it is best to check in advance. Gąski lies about 10 km west of Mielno, and a visit is easily combined with the beaches at Sarbinowo.
