A sight in the Toruń region

The House of Nicolaus Copernicus — the astronomer's museum

A group of Gothic burgher houses devoted to Toruń's most famous son — Nicolaus Copernicus, author of the heliocentric theory.

Copernicus and Toruń

Nicolaus Copernicus was born in Toruń in 1473. His work On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres moved the Sun to the centre of the system and began a scientific revolution. The museum in a Gothic townhouse presents his life, his age and his achievements, with mementoes, copies of his instruments and a display on old Toruń.

Visiting

  • The biographical display — the life and discoveries of Copernicus in the context of his age
  • Burgher interiors — the layout and furnishing of a Gothic townhouse
  • Shows and multimedia — depending on the museum's current programme
  • Tickets — combined with other branches of the District Museum

Around it

The museum stands in the heart of the old town — a few minutes from the market square, the Leaning Tower and the walls above the Vistula. It fits naturally into a walking route of „Gothic Toruń”, combined with gingerbread and the panorama from the far bank.
