Międzyzdroje is one of the best-known resorts on the Polish coast, set on the island of Wolin at the gates of Woliński National Park. Nicknamed the Town of Stars, it is famous for its Promenade of Stars with the handprints of Polish actors and for the Festival of Stars every July. The town's emblem is its 395-metre pier — the longest concrete pier in Poland — reaching far out into the Baltic. The wide sandy beach is framed by beech forest and tall cliffs, and just outside town waits the European Bison Show Enclosure. This is the base for the wildest stretch of the Polish coast: the Gosań and Kawcza Góra cliffs and the viewpoints above the sea.
Międzyzdroje lies on the island of Wolin, in West Pomerania, right by the German border and barely 10 km from Świnoujście. It is one of the oldest and most recognisable resorts on the Polish Baltic; it received town rights in 1945, though it had been developing as a bathing resort since the 19th century. To the south the town is wrapped by Woliński National Park — the only park in Poland that protects coastal cliffs and beech forests running almost down to the sand.
The town's calling card is the Promenade of Stars, a seafront walkway set with the handprints of the stars of Polish cinema, and the Festival of Stars held here every summer. It is thanks to these that Międzyzdroje earned the nickname Town of Stars. From the promenade the 395-metre pier — the longest concrete pier in the country — runs out to sea, with views over the open Baltic and, in clear weather, as far as the island of Usedom.
The beach at Międzyzdroje is among the widest on the coast: fine, pale sand stretching along the foot of forested cliffs. East of town rises Kawcza Góra (61 m a.s.l.), and beyond it the highest cliff on the Polish coast — Gosań (95 m a.s.l.). Just outside town, inside the national park, is the European Bison Show Enclosure, where these huge animals can be watched at close quarters.
Międzyzdroje makes an excellent base for exploring the whole of Wolin — nearby Wolin town with its medieval Slav and Viking settlement, the Turquoise and Black lakes near Wapnica, and the wild beaches east of the resort.
