Wambierzyce has been one of the most important pilgrimage centres in Silesia for centuries. At its heart stands a monumental Baroque basilica with an imposing front and wide steps; around it, on the hills, stretches an extensive Calvary with dozens of chapels reproducing the topography of Jerusalem — hence the byname "Lower Silesian Jerusalem".
