A sight in the Hel region

The Fisheries Museum in Hel — in a former church with a viewing tower

A museum in the historic former Protestant church in Hel, presenting the history and traditions of Baltic fishing. The tower holds a viewing point with a panorama of the peninsula, the Baltic and the Bay of Puck.

The museum

The Fisheries Museum occupies the former Protestant church in the centre of Hel. The display is devoted to the history and traditions of Baltic fishing — boats, gear, the daily life of fishing families and the natural world of the bay.

The viewing tower

  • The church tower as a viewing point — a panorama of the peninsula and both bodies of water
  • A central position in Hel — close to the main promenade and the seal centre
  • The fishing display — boats, gear and the daily life of fishermen
  • Stairs to the tower — comfortable shoes are worth having

Practical notes

The museum is ticketed; it is worth checking the current opening hours and access to the tower in advance (shorter out of season). Combine the visit with a walk round the centre of Hel, to the seal centre and the lighthouse.
