The castle's history
The castle was built at the turn of the 14th century as a royal stronghold. It served as a residence, a prison for high-ranking captives and, at times, a store for the crown treasure. After the Swedish wars it fell into decline and has remained a ruin ever since.

Practical notes
The castle stands right by the S7, about 15 km from Kielce. It is a few minutes uphill from the car park below. Admission is charged and it is open all year. The visit combines well with the nearby Raj Cave.
