What the Monciak is
Bohaterów Monte Cassino (locally the "Monciak") is a pedestrian street about 700 metres long, running from Sopot railway station in the west to plac Zdrojowy and the pier in the east. It grew up in the 19th century as the main shopping street of the developing resort. The architecture is a mixture of Art Nouveau, neo-Renaissance and modernism in buildings from 1880 to 1930. The whole promenade is pedestrian for most of the day (delivery vehicles only in the morning).
This is where Sopot's town life is concentrated — restaurants (Polish, Italian, Asian and fish), cafés, ice cream shops, souvenir and amber shops, boutiques, two atmospheric cinemas (Polonia and Helios) and the Crooked House. In the summer season the promenade is busy 18 hours a day, with fairs and open-air concerts.
Sopot's beach
Sopot's beach runs the whole length of the town — about 4.5 km of sand on the Bay of Gdańsk. It is one of the cleanest beaches in Poland — it has held the Blue Flag (the European ecological standard for bathing beaches) for years. The sand is white and fine, the bottom shelves gently (ideal for children) and the water in season is 18–22°C.
The main lifeguarded bathing area is near the pier — with WOPR lifeguards from June to August, 10:00–18:00. The beach has benches, beach baskets (charged, about 50 zł a day), water equipment for hire and beach bars. Access is free.

- The art gallery on the Monciak — several changing exhibitions, sometimes free
