A sight in the Mazury region

Lake Mamry and Węgorzewo — the northern pole of sailing Masuria

Mamry is the second largest lake in Poland after Śniardwy, a broad expanse of water prized by sailors, and Węgorzewo is its main centre at the northern end of the Great Masurian Lakes.

The second largest lake in Poland

Mamry is, after Śniardwy, the second largest body of water in Poland — broad and open, valued for longer and more demanding passages. It forms the northern end of the connected route through the Great Masurian Lakes.

Węgorzewo

Węgorzewo lies at the northern end of the route and is its main gateway from that side — with a marina, charter firms and a calmer atmosphere than busy Mikołajki. A good starting point for cruises on Mamry.

On the water and along the shore

  • Sailing — a broad expanse of water, better suited to more experienced crews
  • The marina at Węgorzewo — charters and supplies
  • Connections to the other lakes through the system of canals
  • A calmer atmosphere than in the southern part of the route
