Janowiec Castle — a Renaissance stronghold across the Vistula

The castle

Janowiec Castle stands on the far bank of the Vistula, opposite Kazimierz. It is a Renaissance complex with a long history, partly surviving as a ruin and today open as a museum. From the castle slopes a wide view opens over the Vistula valley.

The most atmospheric way there is the ferry from Kazimierz — but it runs seasonally and depending on the weather, so it is worth checking the timetable and availability in advance. When the water is high or out of season, the way there is over the bridge at Puławy.
